The overall aim of P2N2 is to use the therapeutic power of play in a supportive environment to promote resilience and wellbeing for children and families.

P2N2 offers a play boost for school aged children experiencing economic and/or emotional hardship who live or go to school within a one-mile radius of The Play Sanctuary, Alfred Street, Gloucester GL1 4DF.

The project is led by therapeutically qualified staff and supported by experienced playworkers and young volunteers. Referrals are flexible and responsive at the point of need and come from a mixture of community, family and professionals.

The project aims to work with 234 school aged children during the three years and is positioned at the intersection of playwork and play therapy.

It builds on the learning and success of the previous Play2Nurture project (see reports and theory of change below) and Play Gloucestershire’s proud history of universal play and targeted support since 2007.

P2N2 delivers play in three Gloucester locations:

• The Play Sanctuary – our dedicated play space for invited groups
• Ayland Gardens Open Space – open access community sessions in our local park, just around the corner from The Play Sanctuary
• Oxstalls Campus, University of Gloucestershire – a beautiful natural space for playing during school holidays

P2N2 focusses on three key areas:

• Supporting children and families through therapeutic playwork and young volunteering
• Building Play Gloucestershire’s organisational capacity through training, experiential learning and expansion of work into the new Gloucestershire Gateway Trust Children and Family Centres
• Developing a community of practice for therapeutic playwork that creates an endorsed training programme
