A very exciting event took place on Wednesday 7th May 2014 – Gloucester Services Motorway Service Area opened! This is the motorway services that will provide long term economic and social benefit to Gloucestershire, and over the next 20 years it will create more than 300 local jobs and £10 million for community partners. We are proud to announce that Play Gloucestershire are one of those community partners and will receive funding to support community play locally.

Pip, our Director of Play has worked with Mark Gale, who is the driving force behind this project since 1984 when they first joined forces through White City Community Project. Later they worked together at Gloucestershire Neighbourhood Projects Network, and now they link again with this unique new project. “I’m thrilled that Play Gloucestershire are going to benefit from Gloucester Services and in awe that Mark has managed to pull this off!” said Pip. “This is a massive boost to local charities, and we love being part of it. We’ve been involved since the first dig at Gloucester Services, have advised on the outdoor play area, will have a display there promoting what we do, and eventually will receive funding for children’s play in Gloucestershire”.

I’m sure our Rangers will be calling in for a cuppa as they travel around the County.

Here’s a photo of Gloucester Services that we took from the top of Robinswood Hill during a play day there in the Easter holidays.
